Espécies de cores amarelo, roxo, rosa e branco são vistos em vários pontos da cidade. O pesquisador destaca ainda que enquanto o pau-brasil é a árvore símbolo do país, a flor do ipê é o símbolo do Brasil, que tem 27 espécies, sendo 15 delas endêmicas, ou seja, ocorrem apenas no nosso país.
O colorido dos Ipês tem chamado a atenção de quem passa pelas ruas de Rio Branco. É que com a seca, as flores florescem e enfeitam a capital acreana e se torna o protagonistas das fotos , já que nas redes sociais ninguém resistem em tirar uma foto de toda essa cor. O biólogo Marcos Silveira, doutor em ecologia, explica que entre agosto e setembro, a incidência dos ipês é comum na cidade.
“No auge do ‘verão amazônico’, quando a umidade do ar e a disponibilidade de água no solo são baixas, como que num milagre da vida, em meio às buzinas e semáforos das ruas, entre os bancos e gramados das praças e os varadouros das florestas, a paisagem ganha um colorido especial com a floração dos ipês ou pau d´arco como são popularmente conhecidas essas plantas na região Norte. São exatamente essas condições climáticas nessa parte do país e o frio na região Sul, os fatores estressantes que causam, primeiro, a queda das folhas para evitar a perda de água por evapotranspiração, e em seguida, acionam o relógio biológico dessas plantas indicando que é tempo de florescer, mesmo que por um curto período”, explica.

“Além das flores tubulosas vistosas, todas as espécies têm folha digitada, dividida em folíolos, os quais variam em forma e número. No Acre conhecemos cinco espécies nativas de ipê: o ipê roxo (Handroanthus serratifolius), o ipê branco (Sparattosperma leucanthum) e três espécies de ipê amarelo. As duas primeiras são facilmente distinguidas pela tonalidade das flores, rosa tendendo à roxo, e branca com listas avermelhadas, mas as três últimas são um pouco mais difíceis de serem separadas. Uma delas, Handroanthus serratifolius, como o próprio revela, possui folíolos com a margem serreadas. Os outros dois amarelos, Handroanthus capitatus, que alcança 40 m de altura, e Handroanthus obscurus, que não passa de 15 m, possuem folíolos com a margem inteira.”
Silveira diz ainda que é impossível não ser tocado pela beleza das flores e que algumas espécies de ipês acabam sendo exploradas pelo mercado.
“Sobre as carretas do manejo florestal, toras de duas espécies raras e quase ameaçadas de extinção, transitam todos os dias pelas ruas das cidades e estradas do estado, o ipê roxo (Handroanthus impetiginosus) e uma das espécies de ipê-amarelo (Handroanthus serratifolius). No lugar delas, como que numa forma de se redimir do pecado, plantamos nas vias públicas outras espécies de ipê, como o ipê-rosa e o branco que embelezam tremendamente a cidade, mas que não são nativas da nossa região”, finaliza.
